Therapy Dog Evaluations 2017-09-20T15:17:45+00:00

Congratulations on making it through the Companion Paws Therapy Dog Workshop. Lets get your dog evaluated and certified as a Companion Paws Therapy Dog! The following is a two part process involving registering with The LifeLine Canada Foundation for a time, date and location to complete the evaluation and then completing the process by paying for the evaluation to ensure your spot. Do not forget to proceed to the payment part of the process after registering.

Everyone at Companion Paws is a dog lover.  As such, we only qualify dogs who enjoy interacting with strangers to protect dogs who don’t from being over-stressed or forced into such activities.

To qualify as a therapy dog, the dog must be spayed or neutered, have an up to date medical health records letter from his or her veteranarian and must have no aggression towards people or other dogs (including un-neutered male dogs).

For evaluations in the Okanagan of BC, once registered for the evaluation, you also have the option to visit our partner veterinary Dr. Oz from Rose Valley Veterinary Hospital in West Kelowna.  You will receive a wonderful discount as part of TLC’s Companion Paws program. Call them directly to make an appointment (250) 769-9109.

Prior to being admitted into the CPC evaluation, a brief temperament test will be performed on the dog by a CPC evaluator.

The CPC evaluation is divided into two stages and has 14 individual tests and additional exercises within each test. The temperament evaluation is not included in this number.

During testing, there will be people and dogs standing outside the testing area.  Kids will be included in one or more of the individual tests.  We also include an exercise that includes being in a dark room where people are moving out in response to a power outage as well as an exercise to predict a dog’s temperament if someone grabs the dogs face or attempts to pick the dog up.
