TLC’s Companion Paws Therapy Dog Evaluation

Everyone at Companion Paws is a dog lover.  As such, we only qualify dogs who enjoy interacting with strangers to protect dogs who don’t from being over-stressed or forced into such activities.

CPC Evaluators have extensive experience working with dogs and their owners, and are very knowledgeable about dog behavior.

To qualify as a therapy dog, the dog must have an up to date medical health records letter from his or her veteranarian and must have no aggression towards people or other dogs (including un-neutered male dogs).

Personal Therapy Dog handlers will be required to bring a letter from your current mental health professional prior to performing the evaluation. The letter from your current mental health professional must be on letter head, with date, signature, your name and why a therapy dog would benefit you.

Assisted Therapy Dog handlers will be required to bring a letter on a letter head with business details for registration prior to the evaluation.

Visiting Therapy Dog handlers will be required to complete the Visiting Therapy Dog form for registration prior to performing the evaluation.

Prior to being admitted into the CPC evaluation, a brief temperament test will be performed on the dog by a CPC evaluator.

The CPC evaluation is divided into two stages and has 17 individual tests and additional exercises within each test. The temperament evaluation is not included in this number.

During testing, there will be people and dogs standing outside the testing area.  Kids will be included in one or more of the individual tests.  .
